Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members
Yesterday was Remembrance Day. This is a memorial day that falls on the 11th November each year and has been observed since the end of World War One in 1918. The Year 6 student councillors represented our school and laid a wreath at the Albany RSL Remembrance Day service at the war memorial on York St. Thank you to the councillors for being respectful and representing our school.
The Voluntary Contributions and Charges for 2022 have been reviewed and noted by the School Board at their last meeting on 28 October.
The contributions for Kindy 2022 will remain at $50 and for PP-Yr 6 $60 per child.
Thank you to everyone who has paid their contributions so far this year. If you are still to pay your contributions for 2021, payments can be made by cash, cheque or direct deposit into our account:
Yakamia Primary School
BSB: 016- 510
Thank you for your support in making these payments.
This year each class (PP-Yr 6) will be presenting two Pursuit of Excellence medallions. These special awards recognise the efforts of students who consistently strive to do their best, and this will be acknowledged in the two categories of academic and citizenship.
Pursuit of Excellence – Academic
This is awarded to the student who has demonstrated excellence in all areas of the curriculum and has received the highest academic achievement in the class.
Pursuit of Excellence – Citizenship
This is awarded to a student who demonstrates respect for themselves, others and school at all times in all aspects of school. They contribute to YPS in a positive manner, are inclusive of all students and strive to achieve their personal best at all times.
Our Pursuit of Excellence Assembly will be on Thursday 2 December.
Well done to everyone for a fantastic athletics carnival last week. All students showed great sportsmanship and worked hard to achieve their personal best. Well done to Karrak for winning the carnival for 2022. Thank you to Mr McFarlane, Mr Makenzie and Mrs Marwick for your organisation of this event and to the staff who trained students and helped on the day. Thank you to the P&C for your efforts with the sausage sizzle and cake stall.
Mrs Tanya Sandilands, our school librarian, will be leaving us at the end Week 6 to pursue a new lifestyle in Australind. We thank Mrs Sandilands for all the care and support she has given our students and school library over the many years she has worked at Yakamia, and we wish her all the best for the future.
On Friday 26 November we invite all 2022 Kindy and new to Yakamia Pre-Primary parents and carers to attend our orientation meeting. We are looking forward to meeting you all and sharing important information about our school with you. This meeting will commence at 9am and will be followed by a morning tea.
Next week our assembly will be an Indonesian assembly organised by Mrs Tierney. We are looking forward to this presentation. All parents are welcome to attend.
Enjoy Albany Show weekend!
