Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members
On Wednesday students celebrated reaching over 10 000 turtle tickets with a PBS Water Fun Day followed by a free sausage sizzle. Students had a great time and we thank the staff for their organisation of the activities for the day. Well done to all students for demonstrating our PBS expectations and showing RESPECT YPS.
On Thursday a team of 100 students from Years 1-6 attended the Interschool Athletics Carnival at Mount Barker Community College. Students participated well and did their personal best to gain points for our school. Well done to all students who participated. Yakamia came third in the senior carnival, fifth in the junior carnival and second in the senior handicap. The overall winning schools were Denmark for the senior carnival and Flinders Park for the junior carnival.
Congratulations to Brylee who was the Yr 4 Runner-up Girl and to Augie who was the Champion Yr 5 Boy.
Next week we have our special Pursuit of Excellence assembly. Two students from each class (PP-Yr 6) will be presented with Pursuit of Excellence medallions. These special awards recognise the efforts of students who consistently strive to do their best, and this will be acknowledged in the two categories of academic and citizenship.
Pursuit of Excellence – Academic
This is awarded to the student who has demonstrated excellence in all areas of the curriculum and has received the highest academic achievement in the class.
Pursuit of Excellence – Citizenship
This is awarded to a student who demonstrates respect for themselves, others and school at all times in all aspects of school. They contribute to YPS in a positive manner, are inclusive of all students and strive to achieve their personal best at all times.
Our Pursuit of Excellence Assembly will be on Thursday 1 December. The Pre- Primary classes will be presenting an item at this assembly. Parents are welcome to attend.
Next Friday is orientation day for the Year 6 students attending North Albany Senior High School next year. Students attend all day at NASHS.
The Year 6 Graduation will be on Tuesday 13 December 1:30pm for all Year 6 students, parents and family members. This will be followed by an afternoon tea for families. A note will go home next week with more information. There will be a graduation dinner that night for students only. There is a payment of $20 to cover the cost of the dinner. Tickets can be purchased from the office and need to be purchased before 9 December so catering can be finalised.
On Thursday 1 December the Commissioner for Children and Young People, Jacqueline McGowan- Jones, is visiting Albany as part of her Listening Tour to communities all over the State. These visits help her to hear how local children and young people are faring, the issues affecting their wellbeing and the local initiatives and programs that are making a positive difference. Twenty Yakamia students from Years 3-6 have been chosen to speak with the Commissioner, we are looking forward to our students having the opportunity to share their opinions and ideas.
