Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members
Yesterday a group of 20 students were fortunate to meet the Commissioner for Children and Young People, Jacqueline McGowan-Jones. The Commissioner’s job is to talk to children and young people and others in the community about what children need to be healthy and reach their potential. She spoke with our students about what they like best about their community and what things could be improved. Our students provided the Commissioner with lots of great ideas including how to help others and how we could make our world and environment a better place for kids. Thank you to all students who participated. You did an outstanding job representing our school.
On Wednesday 21 June, we celebrated ‘b Kinder Day’ with students dressing in bright colours to represent kindness. Students participated in a range of activities which included making cards to show their appreciation of others, reading books about kindness and discussing the importance of being kind and inclusive and the impact this has on us all.
Swimming lessons commence on Tuesday 18 July. Swimming lessons are part of our Physical Education curriculum and are essential in providing students with the skills they require to swim and to be safe around water. If you are watching your child during their lesson, please do not approach the swimming teachers with any questions or comments on your child’s swimming ability, or interrupt the lesson. If you have any questions, please see your class teacher and these will be followed up for you. Please be aware you are unable to take photos of any students during swimming lessons, this is to protect the privacy of all students. Thank you for your understanding of this matter.
Next week we are celebrating NAIDOC Week. The NAIDOC Week theme this year is ‘For Our Elders’. Across every generation, Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families. They are cultural knowledge holders, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors and leaders. We are looking forward to acknowledging our Elders at our NAIDOC assembly on Monday at 8:50am. All families are welcome to attend this special assembly.
School holidays commence on 1 July. Have a safe and relaxing break!
Kind regards – Gemma Larham
