Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
Welcome back to Term 3!
A special welcome to the new families who have joined our Yakamia community this term – we’re excited to have you on board.
This term promises to be a busy and exciting one, with a range of events and activities planned. Highlights include Book Week celebrations, our Whole School Learning Journey afternoon, the Choir Music Festival, and swimming lessons for our Year 5 and 6 students. A copy of the Term Planner is attached to this
newsletter – please check it for important dates and events.
At the end of Term 2, we celebrated NAIDOC Week with a range of meaningful activities. Our week began with a special assembly featuring a Welcome to Country by Ms Glenda Williams, a performance by our school choir, and the presentation of our annual Diversity Awards. On Wednesday, students from PrePrimary to Year 6 took part in engaging, multi-aged group activities that explored Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and traditions. A huge thank you to our AIEO, Lou-Ann Miniter, for her fantastic coordination of the week.
Today, our Telethon Ambassadors hosted a successful Footy Colours Day fundraiser. Students dressed in their favourite team’s colours and enjoyed a hotdog lunch, all for a gold coin donation. The event was a great success and helped raise valuable funds. Thank you to Miss Scott and the Telethon Ambassadors for organising it. Go Dockers! (CORRECTION: West Coast – editor) On Monday, we look forward to welcoming our Principal Mrs Larham back from her long-service leave in Italy!
Kind regards,
Tristan Mackenzie
Acting Principal
