Welcome to Yakamia Primary School

Promoting the healthy development of every child so that each has the knowledge, skills and resiliency to be successful in a rapidly changing world.

Yakamia Primary School is located in Yakamia, a high growth area in the City of Albany.

Translated from the local Aboriginal language, Yakamia means “Home of the Turtle”. In the school emblem, the concentric circles represent the watercourse of Yakamia Creek, which flows past the school. The profiles of the boy and girl enclosed by concentric circles symbolises a child-centred school.

The school was recognised as Western Australia’s Primary School of the Year and has built a culture of being a place where children can reach their potential and where staff and students have earned a reputation for excellence.

In 2012 the new Yakamia Primary School was officially opened following a complete re-build.

Three six-classroom blocks; music and art rooms; an administration block; dental therapy centre; covered assembly area with canteen and two hard courts were built on site.

The new classrooms are bigger and have more common areas for group work and collaborative teaching, which boosts learning and maintains students’ interest.

Yakamia is a positive behaviour school. Read more…
